The Importance Of Being Harpo

  Oh, what to do?
What do people do in Sydney? I've never been to Sydney and I'm off next weekend to visit some friends. I presume we'll just drink and talk rubbish but if there were specific things to do while I was in Sydney, what would they be? Ferries, obviously; hanging out with the homosexuals, sure; are there pubs there or are they all RSLs?

Comments:
Gee, Harpo! Will you be in Sydney for the Idol final? It looks like your bad luck continues...

Oh hey! That's magnificent. The Idol Final! I didn't even think of it. Sydnew will be going off. How exciting. (Harpo adds cardboard and texta to his packing list).

This is what we've missed with you out of town, Meva. Queensland may treat you well but Victoria appreciates you.

And yes. Sydnew. I stubbornly stand by my mistyping.

I find that Sydney is essentially looking at motorboats on the harbour, drinking in the sun and nudity. The whole city. I had a splendid time.

Welcome back! Can't wait to hear all about the nudity. 'Cos I'm a bit of a perve.

Well, Meva, it seems you've been getting nudity enough lately but for you here's just one incident from a few we enjoyed:

Circular Quay is a ferry port right in the centre of the city. It lies in the short gap between the Sydney Opera House and the Harbour Bridge and there are cafés and restaurants and buskers and touristy shops and buckets of tourists.

Several years ago some money-hungry evil capitalist somehow got the government of the day to let him put a seven-story hotel right next to the quay on what had previously been lawn in front of the Opera House. And there on a fifth-floor balcony, she stood just having a cigarette, in front of the busiest tourist thoroughfare of Australia's busiest city, naked as the day she was born.

Good luck to the lass, I say.
